Amazon Replaces Fire Line With Android-Powered Alexa Tablets

  • Amazon announced the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Alexa Tablet 11, and Alexa Tablet 8 with preorders open and U.S., Canada and Mexico shipments starting Oct. 14 and European deliveries on Oct. 19.
  • The devices run certified Android with full Google Play Store access so users can install apps like YouTube, Netflix and Gmail without workarounds.
  • Pricing starts at $229.99 for the 8.7‑inch model, $329.99 for the 11‑inch, and $499.99 for the 12‑inch 12 Pro with a $549.99 Nanomatte option, plus optional pens and keyboards.
  • Hardware includes aluminum unibody designs, MediaTek Dimensity chips (8189 for smaller models and 8400 for the 12 Pro), an optional Corning‑developed Nanomatte anti‑glare display, and Amazon Kids bundles with cases and one year of Kids+.
  • Amazon will stop shipping current Fire tablets in the next month or two while promising at least four years of software updates for the new line, which will launch on Android 16 with Android 17 planned for early 2027.
