Amazon Launches Alexa+ Early Access in Mexico, Its First Spanish-Language Market

It pairs generative AI with Mexican Spanish localization to hold context-aware conversations and carry out real-world tasks.

Overview

  • Starting January 22, Mexican users can join the Acceso Anticipado program by registering online or by activating a compatible Echo device, with early access free and a later price of 399 MXN per month that is included for Prime members.
  • The assistant maintains ongoing dialogue without repeating the wake word, remembers preferences, interprets context, and uses vision to analyze images and handwritten notes to create actions such as shopping lists or reminders.
  • Alexa+ is tuned for Mexico, speaking with a local accent and understanding expressions like "ahorita," as well as culturally specific references that affect how it responds.
  • Amazon says the update supports roughly 99% of Echo devices in Mexico, excluding some first-generation or older models, and invitations will go out in weekly waves during the staged rollout.
  • Built on Amazon Bedrock, the system orchestrates LLMs including Amazon Nova and third-party models such as Anthropic, and it already handles tasks like restaurant bookings via OpenTable with additional integrations like Rappi promised.
