Amazon Confirms Tomb Raider: Catalyst Will Launch in 2028

The timing spreads the two new Tomb Raider releases across 2027–2028, raising the prospect of a PlayStation digital-only launch and reflecting studio scheduling pressures.

Overview

  • Amazon Games head Jeffrey Gattis confirmed on Friday that the second new Tomb Raider title, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, is planned for release in 2028.
  • Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, the ground-up remake announced alongside Catalyst, is scheduled to arrive on February 12, 2027.
  • Catalyst is described by the developers as a new entry built on Unreal Engine 5 and set in India, with planned releases on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Reporting links the staggered schedule to deliberate release spacing and to development strain at Crystal Dynamics, which has had multiple rounds of layoffs in the past year.
  • Sony’s policy to stop producing new PlayStation discs from January 2028 means Catalyst’s 2028 timing could leave it without a PS5 disc release, and Amazon is positioning both Tomb Raider games as key content for its Luna cloud service.
