Amazon Commits $10 Billion to Build Data Center Campus in Montgomery County

The project aims to boost local tax revenue by funding electric grid connections, donating water infrastructure, including multimillion-dollar community grants.

Overview

  • Amazon announced the $10 billion investment on Monday, June 15, 2026, and says the multi-site campus will enter permitting and construction next.
  • The company projects more than 400 full-time data center jobs and thousands of construction roles during the build-out.
  • Amazon pledged over $7 million in community contributions, including $3 million for emergency dispatch, more than $1 million for a fairgrounds gathering space, and a $150,000 community grant fund.
  • Amazon will pay 100% of the costs to connect the campus to the electric grid in coordination with Ameren Missouri and says it will not seek discounts on electric rates.
  • The plan includes energy and water-efficiency measures—a 138 MW carbon-free project, extensive free-air cooling, rainwater harvesting and a partnership to cut groundwater withdrawals—with completed water systems to be donated to the local public water district.
