Amazon Adds PayPal Instalments to Checkout in Germany and Austria

The deal gives PayPal direct access to Amazon shoppers by embedding PayPal’s instalment loans into Amazon’s checkout.

Overview

  • Amazon and PayPal said the PayPal instalment option will be rolled out stepwise starting in August 2026 on amazon.de and in the Amazon app, with availability phased in for eligible users rather than a single launch date.
  • Only customers with a German or Austrian PayPal account can apply at checkout, where PayPal runs an on‑the‑spot credit check to decide whether to offer financing and then manages the repayment plan in the PayPal account.
  • The product covers purchases from €30 to €10,000 and offers standard terms of 3, 6, 12 and 24 months plus Amazon‑exclusive 36‑ and 48‑month options for larger buys.
  • PayPal will provide and service the credit and automatically debit monthly instalments from the linked bank account or debit card; Amazon will act as a credit intermediary and not as the lender, and the partnership does not mean PayPal will be accepted as a general Amazon payment method.
  • PayPal’s representative effective annual rate is 11.49% (example: €1,000 over 12 months totals €1,059.94), occasional 0% promotions may apply, and consumers are warned that longer terms or multiple concurrent plans raise total cost and monthly burden so they should check rates and total repayment before opting in.
