Alshon Jeffery Arrested on Felony Insurance Fraud Charges in California

Prosecutors allege he backdated an insurance claim after a San Diego crash.

Overview

  • Jeffery was booked Wednesday morning and released after posting a $25,000 bond, with arraignment set for April 23.
  • Prosecutors say he rear-ended a Tesla on Sept. 21 on I-5 in San Diego while his Mercedes-Benz policy had lapsed, and the Tesla was being driven by a Lyft driver with a passenger.
  • The complaint alleges he bought a new policy on Sept. 24 and filed a claim dated Sept. 28 to make the crash appear covered, with about $13,058 in damage to his Mercedes and more than $10,000 to the Tesla.
  • He also faces a charge for conceal or failure to disclose insurance benefits, and a missed March 9 court date prompted a warrant for his arrest.
  • Jeffery’s representative, Denise White, says he “categorically denies the allegations,” calling the case a misunderstanding from a minor fender bender, while California law allows up to five years in prison and fines up to twice the alleged fraud.
