Overview
- Alpine confirmed Tuesday that reserve driver Paul Aron will drive Franco Colapinto’s A526 for the first practice (FP1) at the Hungarian Grand Prix to satisfy the FIA requirement to give track time to young drivers.
- Colapinto will resume driving for FP2 and compete in the rest of the Hungaroring weekend and the team stressed the change is regulatory, not due to injury or a technical problem.
- The rookie-session rule, introduced in 2025, obliges each full-time driver to cede two FP1 sessions per season so teams must plan which weekends reduce a starter’s on-track preparation.
- Colapinto arrives in Budapest on the back of a confidence-boosting 10th place at Spa and a highly rated double overtake, but he faces a heavier schedule because he is also booked for Pirelli tyre development tests at Nürburgring after the race.
- Alpine will not bring a major A526 aerodynamic upgrade until after the summer break at Zandvoort, a decision that leaves the team defending its current pace in Hungary and keeps 2027 driver-market rumours about Colapinto unconfirmed.
