Allahabad HC Orders CLAT-UG 2026 Merit List Recast as Consortium Delays Third Allotment and Plans Appeal

The judge found the oversight panel overruled subject experts without reasons, triggering a recalculation that will not unsettle first-round seats.

Overview

  • The court directed the Consortium to treat both options ‘B’ and ‘D’ as correct for the disputed Logical Reasoning question (Booklet-C Q9, corresponding to Master Booklet-A Q91) and to republish the merit list within one month.
  • Students admitted in the first counselling round will not be disturbed, and the revised rankings are to be used only for subsequent rounds.
  • The single-judge order quashed the Oversight Committee’s unexplained overruling of the Expert Committee and cited Supreme Court precedents requiring reasoned administrative decisions.
  • The Consortium announced that the CLAT UG third merit list, scheduled for February 5, has been postponed until further notice.
  • The Consortium said it will file a Special Appeal before a Division Bench to protect seats allotted in earlier rounds and to defend the final answer key, with a revised counselling schedule to follow the appeal’s outcome.
