‘Alice’s Worlds’ Opens at CaixaForum Valencia With V&A Loans

An immersive show traces 160 years of cultural influence through 255 objects.

Overview

  • The exhibition, which opens to the public Thursday, invites visitors to step into Lewis Carroll’s universe through large-scale sets, sound, and light.
  • It is the first Victoria and Albert Museum presentation hosted at CaixaForum Valencia, introduced by venue director Álvaro Borrás with curator Kate Bailey.
  • Scenography by Ignasi Cristià uses shifting scale and playful set pieces, including a ringing phone that “connects” to Carroll, a towering tea party, and corridors of giant playing cards.
  • Five themed sections follow the book’s arc and its afterlives on screen and stage, spotlighting the 1903 film, Disney’s 1951 version, and artistic responses by Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, Yayoi Kusama, and others.
  • Following earlier stops in Madrid, Barcelona, and Zaragoza that drew about 350,000 visits, the Valencia run is scheduled through October 12, 2026.
