Alianza Lima Suspends Zambrano, Trauco and Peña as Argentine Court Probes Alleged Sexual Assault in Montevideo

Argentine authorities have begun forensic evidence collection under a Buenos Aires court.

Overview

  • Juzgado Nacional en lo Criminal y Correccional Nº 14 opened a case after a 22-year-old Argentine woman’s complaint alleging abuse with carnal access on January 18 at the Hyatt Centric in Montevideo.
  • Orders include medical-legal examinations at Hospital Muñiz, seizure of garments for DNA testing, involvement of the Sexual Violence division, and a panic button and support measures for the complainant.
  • Alianza Lima separated Carlos Zambrano, Miguel Trauco and Sergio Peña indefinitely and initiated an internal disciplinary process, with sporting director Franco Navarro confirming the entry of women to the team’s Uruguay concentration as indiscipline.
  • The club also separated its head of security, and supporters forced entry to the Alejandro Villanueva stadium to protest, with reports of assaults on Paolo Guerrero and Luis Advíncula; Guerrero’s partner later said he is fine.
  • Players issued statements, with Sergio Peña denying criminal involvement, and legal experts highlighted the need for coordination with Uruguay and the possibility of summons or extradition if appearances are not made.
