Overview
- Algorand published a formal post-quantum roadmap on Thursday, June 18, 2026, committing the protocol to broad quantum resilience by the end of 2027.
- The roadmap pins Q3 2026 for native Falcon-1024 accounts plus Pera wallet and SDK updates, schedules post-quantum multisignature and staking support later in 2026, and targets post-quantum VRF and consensus work through 2027.
- Technically, Algorand plans to use Falcon lattice-based signatures, support hybrid accounts that combine classical and post-quantum keys, and build cryptographic agility so the network can swap or combine algorithms as standards evolve.
- The rollout builds on years of work: Algorand added Falcon-signed State Proofs in 2022, recorded its first mainnet Falcon transaction on November 3, 2025, and has processed more than 140,000 post-quantum transactions since then.
- External pressure from NIST, the NSA and France’s ANSSI plus attention from Google and market reactions that lifted ALGO inform the timeline, and the plan forces users, custodians and institutions to move assets to quantum-safe accounts and update wallets and tools.
