Algemesí Nursery Abuse Probe Widens to Auxiliary Worker

A judge in Alzira has widened the case to probe whether an auxiliary worker failed to act in the face of alleged systematic abuse at the private Algemesí nursery.

Overview

  • The court has summoned an auxiliary employee to give a statement as an investigated party over possible omission of duty.
  • The director, accused of habitual mistreatment and degrading treatment, remains free provisionally under bans on contacting pupils, returning to the center, or working with minors.
  • Police unit UFAM is leading the inquiry, which is built on 21 covert videos recorded over about five months by a staff whistleblower.
  • The recordings, according to the complainant, depict forced feeding by covering mouth and nose, pushing and shaking, confinement without supervision, and pricking a child's foot with a thumbtack.
  • The nursery is temporarily closed and the regional education department has reallocated the children to other centers while the investigation continues.
