Alexandria Deputy Arrested and Fired in Alleged Jail Drug Smuggling Case

Internal investigators seized the drugs before any reached inmates.

  • Former deputy Amarachukwu W. Igwe was taken into custody at the Alexandria Adult Detention Center on Saturday after staff intercepted narcotics she allegedly brought for a detainee.
  • She was transported to the Arlington County Detention Facility and booked on possession, delivery of drugs to prisoners, and conspiracy.
  • The sheriff’s office said it terminated her employment immediately, and its Investigations, Professionalism & Oversight Section led the interdiction.
  • Sheriff Sean Casey praised the unit’s proactive work and said he has zero tolerance for conduct that undermines facility security.
  • Officials said the case remains under investigation and that Igwe had worked at the sheriff’s office since July 2025.
