Alex Palou Takes Indy 500 Pole With 232.248 MPH Run

The defending winner became the first since 2010 to back up a 500 victory with the next year's pole.

Overview

  • Palou secured pole on Sunday in a rain-condensed, one-day qualifying that ran all rounds in sequence.
  • He will lead a front row with Alexander Rossi in second and David Malukas in third.
  • Felix Rosenqvist set the fastest runs in earlier rounds at up to 232.599 mph but slipped to fourth in the Fast Six.
  • All 33 entrants qualified, with two-time winner Josef Newgarden starting 24th and Kyle Kirkwood 26th after off pace runs.
  • Katherine Legge qualified 27th and plans the Indy 500–Coca-Cola 600 Double, which would make her the first woman to complete both races in one day.
