Aldi Formalizes Global Modular Store Format With Landini Associates

The modular layout aims to speed expansion by giving shoppers clearer wayfinding and pricing.

Overview

  • Aldi South Group disclosed Friday it had teamed with Landini Associates on a single, modular store format to standardize the in‑store experience worldwide.
  • The company says the design will reach stores in the U.S., Australia, Germany, the U.K., Ireland, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Slovenia and Switzerland.
  • Trials began in September 2025 in Aventura, Florida, and Landini says U.S. teams will keep testing and refining the format through 2026.
  • Planned changes include standardized shelving and clearer signs, with a flexible footprint that can scale to smaller corner‑store locations.
  • The redesign ties into U.S. growth plans to open more than 180 stores in 2026, convert about 80 Southeastern Grocers sites, and move toward 3,200 locations by 2028, alongside a private‑label and website refresh.
