- Aldi has submitted a £7 million planning application to Wirral Council for a new store at Wirral Waters, listed on the council site as application reference APP/26/00844 and now under consideration.
- The proposed site sits off Birkenhead Road and is currently used as a lorry park after earlier industrial uses such as a timber yard and pallet centre.
- Plans describe a modern store with 84 customer parking spaces, cycle hoops to encourage active travel, and an estimated 40 full-time equivalent jobs that Aldi says it would recruit from the local area.
- Aldi ran a pre-application consultation with more than 500 local people and reported 97% support, and Peel Waters' development director Richard Mawdsley publicly backed the proposal as supporting the wider waterfront regeneration.
