Alberta Announces One-Time $100 Energy Rebate for Eligible Adults

Overview

  • The government announced Wednesday that nearly 3.4 million Albertans will be eligible for a one-time $100 Alberta Energy Rebate delivered by application between July 1 and Sept. 30.
  • Adults 18 and older who filed a 2025 tax return and live in households with combined income of $225,000 or less must apply through a secure portal to receive the payment.
  • Officials said the rebate is funded by recent higher oil revenues linked to the Iran-related disruption to shipping and that the 20-day WTI average used for the decision was US$92.74 per barrel.
  • Those on Alberta benefit programs including AISH, ADAP, Income Support and the Alberta Seniors Benefit will be automatically enrolled, the rebate is not taxable, and the government expects payments to arrive about two weeks after an approved application.
  • Opposition leaders called the measure a limited, one-time fix that does not address sustained cost-of-living pressures while the government left open the option of further relief if oil prices stay high.
