Alamo Drafthouse Launches Alamo Exclusives to Release Undistributed Festival Films

It aims to give festival titles without U.S. deals limited theatrical runs with marketing support through Alamo’s screens.

Overview

  • Alamo Drafthouse announced Wednesday that it has created Alamo Exclusives, a new in‑house label to program limited theatrical engagements for festival films that lack U.S. distribution.
  • The inaugural title is the SXSW documentary Butthole Surfers: The Hole Truth and Nothing Butt, which will receive a limited Alamo engagement later this summer.
  • Alamo says it will work directly with filmmakers to provide premium presentation, marketing support and direct exhibitor access so titles can reach Alamo audiences nationwide.
  • Filmmakers and sales agents can submit projects through FilmFreeway.com/AlamoExclusives and future selections will be sourced from major festivals including Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca, TIFF, Cannes, Berlin and Fantastic Fest.
  • The launch follows Alamo’s 2024 acquisition by Sony and arrives as the chain updates operations, a move that has drawn customer criticism over recent changes such as replacing paper order slips with a mobile ordering system.
