Al Green Files Articles of Impeachment Against President Trump

It is unlikely to advance in Congress because Republicans control both chambers.

Overview

  • The 27-page resolution, filed on Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, charges President Trump with abusing Article II powers by directing Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection to operate as unaccountable enforcement forces.
  • Green’s articles name four people killed in 2026 and accuse ICE and CBP of acting as “vicious, quota-driven, unaccountable paramilitary police forces” that assault civilians and cover up unjustified killings.
  • Rep. Al Green, who lost a recent primary runoff and will leave the House in January, has made this his eighth formal impeachment effort and says the filing creates an on-the-record record of opposition.
  • The White House forcefully rejected the resolution, with spokeswoman Lauren Bis calling the filing “garbage” and defending ICE and CBP’s role in removing criminals from the country.
  • Although the measure faces steep political obstacles, at least one prediction-market indicator registered a small rise in the perceived chance of Trump leaving office before 2027 and the filing could shape public debate and oversight pressure on immigration enforcement.
