Overview
- Airstream began U.S. production of the World Traveler 17RB on Saturday and lists a U.S. base price of $64,400 with first deliveries expected later this year and global production set for the Northern Hemisphere fall.
- The 17.3-foot trailer has a base weight of 3,150 lb, a 350 lb payload limit and a 3,500 lb gross vehicle weight rating, which defines what smaller SUVs and midsize pickups can safely tow.
- To hit weight and price targets Airstream simplified the interior and smoothed the exterior by using smaller rectangular dual-pane acrylic windows, moving rooftop equipment like the air conditioner under the dinette and replacing a dry bath with a compact wet bath.
- Buyers can option off-grid gear — up to about 2,500 Wh of lithium battery capacity and roughly 200 W of solar — but those add-ons will materially affect usable payload and true boondocking range.
- The 17RB is intended to broaden Airstream’s market by offering a more attainable entry point while retaining signature aluminum styling, but its limited payload and option-dependent off-grid capability mean buyers must match options to tow-vehicle capacity and priorities.
