Airbus Leads 2025 Deliveries as Boeing Tops Orders for First Time Since 2018

Persistent engine delays plus quality fixes are shaping output early in 2026.

Overview

  • Airbus handed over 793 jets in 2025, a 4% rise from 2024, after trimming its target to 790 because of A320 fuselage issues and late Pratt & Whitney engines.
  • Boeing delivered 600 aircraft for the year, its highest total since 2018, following an October move that raised the FAA cap on 737 MAX production from 38 to 42 per month.
  • Boeing booked 1,175 gross orders (1,173 net) in 2025, overtaking Airbus’s 1,000 gross (889 net) for the first time since 2018.
  • Airbus closed 2025 with a record backlog of 8,754 aircraft, compared with Boeing’s 6,130.
  • Boeing delivered 65 jets to Chinese airlines in 2025 after that market reopened to its planes late in 2023.
