AirAsia Quits Darwin, Launches MelbourneBali and Boosts Adelaide, Perth

Weak demand prompted a redeployment to larger Australian gateways.

Overview

  • Flights between Darwin and both Bali and Kuala Lumpur will be suspended from 28 April 2026 after roughly a year in service.
  • The new Melbourne–Denpasar route begins 21 March 2026, adding about 130,000 seats a year.
  • AdelaideBali increases from four to seven weekly flights from 21 March, rising to 10 weekly in peak periods and adding more than 56,000 seats annually.
  • Sydney and Melbourne now have daily services to Kuala Lumpur with premium and flatbed options, while Perth maintains four daily Bali flights and doubles to Kuala Lumpur, rising to triple daily in peaks.
  • AirAsia targets up to 100 weekly frequencies across its four Australian gateways during 2026 peak periods, up from 69 in 2025, and will offer refunds to affected Darwin customers within 14 days.
