Air New Zealand to Launch Singapore, Tokyo and Perth Nonstops From Christchurch

The expansion positions Christchurch as a stronger South Island gateway following the return of Air New Zealand’s 787s.

Overview

  • Air New Zealand detailed three new long‑haul routes from Christchurch, with first flights set for Oct 28 to Singapore, Nov 28 to Tokyo Narita, and Nov 30 to Perth.
  • Tickets for the Christchurch–Singapore service are on sale for three weekly flights using retrofitted 787 Dreamliners, with about 34,000 seats offered over the northern winter.
  • Air New Zealand and Christchurch Airport signed a Memorandum of Understanding to align long‑term planning and support sustained international growth into the South Island.
  • The airline said the added flying is enabled by its Boeing 787 fleet returning from global engine maintenance and by new 787s entering service.
  • Separately, ASL Airlines Australia confirmed a conditional agreement to buy Airwork’s New Zealand and Australia freight business, pending final due diligence and customary conditions.
