Air Force Orders Four More MH-139A Grey Wolves, Pushing Buy to 38

The follow-on buy signals a production ramp ahead of a planned full-rate production decision in the second quarter of fiscal 2026.

Overview

  • Boeing won a new contract to build four additional MH-139A helicopters with sustainment, lifting the total aircraft under contract to 38 and the award value to more than $262 million.
  • Twenty-one Grey Wolves have been delivered to the Air Force so far, including a dozen from the 2023 low-rate initial production lot.
  • The latest award follows a $173 million deal in September 2025 for eight helicopters, marking the second production contract in five months.
  • Two MH-139As from the 40th Helicopter Squadron conducted their first operational Minuteman III convoy escort on Jan. 8, completing a six-hour, 100-plus-mile mission without refueling.
  • The AW139-based Grey Wolf is slated to replace the UH-1N for nuclear missile field security, offering greater speed, range, lift and defensive systems for Air Force Global Strike Command.
