Overview
- Investigators say the July 16, 2024 armed robbery at an Ahmedabad jewellery shop, in which the owner’s father was shot and about Rs 1.51 crore in valuables were taken, was linked by CCTV and forensic work to a stolen service revolver.
- Ahmedabad Police arrested 31-year-old Corporal Deepak Bhuker in Delhi and obtained an eight-day police remand after coordinating with Air Force authorities to detain him.
- Officers recovered the alleged service revolver and five live cartridges from the accused’s barracks and seized some jewellery items that are now undergoing material verification.
- Police say Bhuker was posted with the Air Force in Jamnagar when the weapon was stolen and later served at Tughlakabad, and that he used fake IDs, disposable phones, wrapped fingers and changing autos and clothes to evade detection.
- The case has raised questions about inter-agency procedures because the weapon was taken from a retired officer’s Jamnagar home and the arrest could prompt further probes into arms security and military-housekeeping practices.
