Air Canada 737 MAX Veers Off Taxiway at Montréal–Trudeau

The Transportation Safety Board has deployed investigators to determine why the jet left the paved surface.

Overview

  • An Air Canada Flight AC774 from Los Angeles completed a routine landing and then exited the taxiway into grass while vacating runway 06L, a move that occurred on Thursday afternoon and left the aircraft stopped beside the runway.
  • All 156 passengers and six crew members were unharmed but remained on board for roughly three to four hours before being deplaned by stairs and bussed to the terminal.
  • Aéroports de Montréal activated its emergency coordination centre and temporarily closed the airport’s north runway, which caused cascading delays and led NAV Canada to impose traffic flow restrictions.
  • Air Canada towed the Boeing 737 MAX (registration C‑GEOJ) to a hangar for a full technical inspection while the airline conducts its own inquiry and the Transportation Safety Board conducts an on-site investigation.
  • Passengers reported smoke and dirt sensations during the excursion, and investigators will examine weather, taxiway and runway conditions, aircraft systems, and crew actions to determine the cause and possible safety implications.
