AHSAA State Soccer Tournament Delayed as Severe Weather Forces Schedule Changes

Organizers shifted several semifinals plus a final to dodge a late-day severe storm threat.

Overview

  • Play at John Hunt Park entered a weather delay around 9 a.m. CT Wednesday, and the AHSAA set a 9:45 a.m. restart during a Class 4A girls semifinal.
  • The National Weather Service forecast a level-two severe risk near 4 p.m. for Huntsville that includes 60 mph wind gusts, hail, tornadoes, and possible flooding.
  • In response to the forecast, officials moved the final two sets of Class 1–3A semifinals from Wednesday evening to Thursday.
  • The Class 1–3A boys championship was also moved from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday to create space away from the storm window.
  • The single-elimination event runs May 6–9 across multiple fields with day-by-day tickets, which strains teams and traveling families when weather forces last-minute changes.
