Overview
- A blast at an alleged illegal firecracker unit on Saturday in the Ramol-Vastral area caused a fire that left 10 people dead and five injured, with one victim dying later at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
- Police have arrested three people named in the FIR — Mehul Dodiya, his mother Ramilaben Dodiya and business partner Sadiq Saiyed — and a Gujarat government Special Investigation Team has been formed to probe the cause.
- Officers seized 65,954 cartons of firecrackers worth an estimated Rs 39.57 crore from two Changodar/Matoda warehouses and named two people connected to that stock in a case under the Explosives Act and related laws.
- Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the fire service and AUDA inspected 299 units over two days, issued notices, and sealed dozens of sites after finding owners absconding, unauthorised sheds, no sprinkler systems and other fire-safety lapses.
- The incident follows a similar deadly illegal-firecracker blast in Deesa in April 2025 and is likely to trigger licence cancellations, criminal prosecutions and continued citywide enforcement as authorities verify licences and forensic evidence.
