Ahmedabad 2030 Push: Fit India ‘Sundays on Cycle’ Mobilises Millions

The government is pairing mass cycling events with athlete outreach and infrastructure displays to widen public fitness, regional participation and Games readiness.

Overview

  • The 75th Fit India 'Sundays on Cycle,' which took place Sunday, May 24, ran at more than 8,000 sites nationwide and made Commonwealth Games Day a focal point for outreach.
  • In Ahmedabad a 5km rally of about 5,000 cyclists at Sabarmati Riverfront was led by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and included a Commonwealth Games–themed exhibition showcasing Khelo India and SAI infrastructure.
  • A special edition in Guwahati, organised by SAI Regional Centre with IIT Guwahati and led by Minister of State Raksha Khadse, blended cycling with yoga, a Thang‑Ta performance and youth contests to widen regional ownership.
  • Top athletes, former Commonwealth medallists and celebrities including Gurjit Kaur, Gagan Narang and Ayushmann Khurrana joined local events to boost visibility and inspire grassroots participation.
  • Officials say these community events will continue as part of a multi‑year plan to deepen public engagement, expand training facilities and use cycling to promote fitness, cut pollution and save fuel ahead of the 2030 Games.
