Agnikul and ICEYE Sign MoU to Explore India-Built SAR Satellite Capability

The agreement aims to pair ICEYE’s radar imaging know‑how with Agnikul’s responsive Agnibaan launches to create a locally made, repeatable model for sovereign earth observation.

Overview

  • The two firms signed a memorandum of understanding at the Bharat Innovates event in Nice on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 to study building, launching and operating Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems from India.
  • Under the MoU ICEYE will explore setting up satellite manufacturing in India while Agnikul plans to provide dedicated launches on its Agnibaan small‑satellite rocket.
  • ICEYE operates a global SAR constellation of more than 70 satellites and has delivered sovereign constellations to European governments quickly, a capability the companies say could shorten deployment times in India.
  • Agnikul’s Agnibaan uses single‑piece 3D‑printed engines and a private launchpad that the company says enables faster, mission‑configured launches for responsive missions such as disaster response and sensitive‑area monitoring.
  • The collaboration is exploratory: neither firm disclosed investment sums, firm timelines, launch manifests or customers, and further technical, regulatory and commercial work will determine if and when an India‑based sovereign SAR capability is realized.
