After 11 Years, Lost Cat Perla Reunites With Family in Germany

A registered microchip enabled a cross-border match through the Tasso pet registry.

Overview

  • Perla, now about 18 years old, was found in early April 2026 at a feeding station in Hannover and was secured by a volunteer who brought her first to a veterinarian.
  • Tierheim Hannover staff scanned her implant and, through the Tasso database, learned the chip was registered in Poland, which revealed the owner’s details.
  • The owner, who was on vacation in Poland, collected Perla from the Langenhagen shelter on Saturday, April 11, after being contacted through the registry.
  • Perla had vanished in 2015 after bolting from a rest stop near the Silbersee off the A2 in Langenhagen, and she is now slowly settling back in at home, seeking laps but tolerating petting only on her head.
  • The shelter says the case shows why chips must be registered in a searchable database like Tasso, since unregistered implants rarely lead to reunions and cross-border records can still connect pets and owners.
