Aeroparque to Close for 55 Hours as Part of $85M Modernization

Aeropuertos Argentina says the maintenance will prevent runway failures through joint repairs, surface decontamination, lighting renewal.

Overview

  • Aeropuertos Argentina announced a full suspension of operations at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery to carry out preventive runway works and terminal upgrades.
  • The closure, scheduled for 25–27 August 2026, will last about 55 hours and is expected to affect roughly 900 flights, with international services rerouted to Ezeiza International Airport.
  • Planned runway tasks include repair and sealing of joints and cracks, surface decontamination, demarcation and adjustment of runway lighting while the broader program funds new kiosks, automated bag drop and expanded commercial and VIP areas.
  • Separate runway rehabilitation at Ezeiza set for 24 October–11 November 2026 will shorten one runway to 1,850 metres, forcing some long‑haul carriers to cancel flights or add technical fuel stops and prompting early schedule changes by airlines.
  • Officials say the interventions respond to record traffic and a prior localized asphalt failure, and authorities are coordinating schedules with ORSNA, carriers and security and migration agencies to limit passenger disruption.
