Aena Sets Data-Led Plan to Rebuild Galicia's Air Links After Ryanair Pullback

The operator plans to take data-led proposals to carriers by year-end to restore connectivity.

Overview

  • Aena convened the new Galicia air connectivity working group in Santiago with the Xunta, the councils of Vigo, A Coruña and Santiago, and business and tourism representatives.
  • Aena said it will not cap destinations at any airport and will match routes to demand, with business cases to be finalized before year-end and presented to airlines.
  • A working document identifies up to nine viable routes for Vigo’s Peinador, including London, Milan, Amsterdam and Rome, plus Palma, Sevilla, Málaga, Valencia and Alicante.
  • The Xunta demanded a formal Aena investment plan to protect viability and connectivity, while Santiago argued for Lavacolla as the main international gateway and Vigo rejected any cargo-only relegation.
  • The Pontevedra business confederation on Friday called for a coordinated public–private push to recover international links, citing competitiveness concerns after Ryanair’s cuts.
