Adobe Adds Acrobat PDF Viewer and Markup to WhatsApp Web and Windows

The integration is meant to cut steps in document review on larger screens for consumers, students and small businesses.

Overview

  • Adobe announced this integration for WhatsApp Web and the WhatsApp Windows app, which was reported across outlets on Wednesday and Thursday and is now rolling out globally for those platforms.
  • Users can open PDFs inside chats without downloading them and can view, scroll, zoom and apply lightweight markups such as highlight, underline, strikethrough and freehand drawing directly in the conversation.
  • Files shared in chats remain protected by WhatsApp’s end‑to‑end encryption and the viewer supports password‑protected PDFs so only recipients with the password can open protected documents.
  • More powerful actions like full text edits, page reordering, electronic signatures and AI summaries open the document in Adobe Acrobat, and some of those features require an eligible Acrobat subscription.
  • Adobe presents the move as part of a wider strategy to embed Acrobat tools into places people already work, a change that could speed small business workflows and strengthen WhatsApp’s utility for document review on desktop browsers and Windows PCs.
