ADF Called In as Large-Scale Search Intensifies for Missing Magician Daniel Hidden

Authorities requested military support after days of searching dense rainforest failed to find him and complicated terrain forced a step-up in resources.

Overview

  • Daniel Hidden, 26, was last seen leaving a Broadbeach address at about 3am on Sunday, June 14, and his phone was switched off shortly afterwards.
  • Police located his silver Hyundai Santa Fe and Galaxy caravan parked at a Currumbin Creek Road carpark in Currumbin Valley on June 16, which triggered the land and aerial search.
  • Crews from Queensland Police, the SES, fire services, volunteers, Polair and drones have combed steep, densely vegetated areas around Cougal Cascades, Gorge Falls and Mt Cougal without finding tracks or belongings.
  • Acting Inspector Brett Jackson said the case is being treated as a search-and-rescue with no evidence of suspicious circumstances and that ADF personnel were expected to join the operation to help cover the vast, difficult terrain.
  • Hidden’s family say the disappearance is out of character for the experienced hiker and performer, police continue to appeal for public information, and authorities plan to reassess search strategy after a short, intensive phase.
