Overview
- Karan Adani said APSEZ has now committed Rs 30,000 crore to Vizhinjam as Phase 2 was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
- The expansion adds roughly 4.1 million TEUs, taking designed capacity to about 5.7 million TEUs by 2029 and positioning the port as a leading transshipment hub.
- Planned works include 21 automated STS cranes, 45 automated CMRG cranes, a rail handling yard, berth extension to 2 km, dredging and reclamation, and a breakwater extended to 3.88 km with a 920‑metre section at 21‑metre depth.
- The state said no land will be acquired for Phase 2, with additional area created through sea reclamation.
- Officials projected an integrated build for Phases 2–4 targeting completion in 2028, with state revenue share expected to start in 2035.
