Overview
- A Newcastle Crown Court jury found Hall guilty after nearly 43 hours of deliberation on five counts of rape and seven counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent for deliberate HIV transmission.
- Prosecutors presented medical evidence that Hall was diagnosed with HIV in 2010 and stopped adhering to treatment by 2016, then had unprotected sex between 2016 and 2023 without disclosing his status.
- Hall was also convicted of supplying GHB, controlling or coercive behaviour, and refusing to provide his phone passcode to investigators.
- Northumbria Police say Hall travelled widely, including to County Durham, Middlesbrough, North and West Yorkshire, Manchester, and London, and they have set up a dedicated reporting portal.
- Officials note this is a rare case, reported as only the second UK conviction for intentional HIV transmission, and public health services are offering confidential testing and support.
