Overview
- The ADAC says the first August weekend will likely be the staureichstes weekend of the season with the heaviest traffic from Friday afternoon into Saturday morning and the strongest return flows on Sunday afternoon.
- Significant delays are already reported in northern border corridors, including about 10 km on the A1 near Lübeck, roughly 40 minutes at the A7 crossing Ellund to Denmark and up to an hour at the A11 Pomellen crossing to Poland.
- A planned protest will fully close the Fernpass on Saturday, August 1 from 9:45 to 12:00, and authorities warn that detour routes will be overloaded for hours before and after the blockade.
- To limit overflow onto local roads, police and road operators plan targeted exit‑closure measures (Abfahrtssperren), Saturday truck bans, tunnel queue controls and staged detours on key autobahn sections.
- Rail and airports will face heavy demand and construction limits, so travellers should reserve seats, allow extra time, avoid travelling the Fernpass on Aug. 1 if possible and never leave children or pets in hot cars.
