Activision Launches Two‑Weekend Modern Warfare 4 Beta as Early Access Begins

The staged beta will stress servers to guide fixes and performance tweaks ahead of Modern Warfare 4’s October launch.

Overview

  • Activision opened the Early Access beta for pre‑order players on Friday, Aug. 21, running through Aug. 25 and followed by an Open Beta scheduled for Aug. 28–Sept. 1.
  • For the first time in a Call of Duty beta, players can play a complete single‑player mission titled “Entrenched,” and progress during the test unlocks cosmetic rewards that carry into the full game.
  • Activision confirmed Digital Legends built the native Nintendo Switch 2 version and early creator footage shows the Switch 2 build generally targets 60 frames per second while trading off resolution and visible artifacting in busy scenes.
  • PC players reported mouse responsiveness, input lag and performance problems and the studio Beenox said it is actively working on optimizations, with immediate patches for audio, map voting and weapon balance expected.
  • Retail cashback deals and new in‑menu pre‑order promotions have widened early access at lower prices, a distribution choice that is shaping who can play now and will influence community reaction before the Oct. 23 release.
