Action Express Cadillac Tops Practice at Detroit Sports Car Classic

Red-flagging incidents in practice have stripped fastest laps from several entries, threatening to reshape qualifying for Saturday’s 100-minute race.

Overview

  • Earl Bamber put the No. 31 Action Express Cadillac fastest in both Friday practice sessions, finishing Practice 2 with a 1:06.412 lap that led the 21-car GTP and GTD Pro field.
  • Practice stoppages for the No. 7 Penske Porsche and No. 9 Pfaff Lamborghini resulted in both cars losing their quickest laps for qualifying and the No. 1 Paul Miller BMW will also forfeit its fastest time after contact with the Turn 9 wall.
  • Corvette Racing set the pace in GTD Pro, with Nicky Catsburg and Alexander Sims posting the class’s top times across the two sessions and the team running 1-2 in Practice 2.
  • One-off driver Chaz Mostert joins Vasser Sullivan in the No. 15 Lexus RC F GT3 for his IMSA street-race debut and placed among the quicker GTD Pro runners in practice.
  • Qualifying is scheduled for later today and the Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic starts Saturday at 4:00 p.m. ET with live coverage on NBC, Peacock and IMSA streaming options.
