Overview
- The Academy said Friday it will let winners of six top festivals qualify for International Feature without a country submission, naming Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Busan, Sundance and Toronto.
- The category will credit the film to its director instead of a country, a shift that would have allowed Cannes winner Anatomy of a Fall to enter even though France picked another title.
- Cannes finalized a nine-member jury led by Park Chan-wook to award the Palme d'Or from May 12 to 23, with Demi Moore, Chloé Zhao, Stellan Skarsgård, Ruth Negga, Laura Wandel, Diego Céspedes, Isaach De Bankolé and Paul Laverty joining.
- Variety reported that actor Jacob Elordi withdrew from possible jury service due to a foot injury.
- The Academy also set tighter AI rules that require human-written scripts and human-performed roles, ended the ban on multiple acting nominations for one performer in a category, and will require voters to watch all nominated films.
