ABVP Activists Booked After Forcing Entry at Azim Premji University as APU Targets Student Page

Police have opened cases on both fronts after a protest over a Kashmir discussion escalated into campus violence.

Overview

  • Police registered an FIR booking about 25 ABVP members on charges including unlawful assembly, trespass, assault, criminal intimidation and property damage, with 18–25 detained and several later granted bail.
  • Azim Premji University said around 20 outsiders breached the Sarjapur campus, vandalised signage and walls, and assaulted security staff and a student before police removed the group.
  • APU separately filed a complaint over the Spark Reading Circle Instagram account, with cases registered under IT Act sections 66E and 67 and a BNS provision, as investigators work to identify the operators.
  • The university stated it had not authorised any programme and said the alleged discussion on the 1991 Kunan Poshpora case did not take place on campus.
  • Student bodies mounted counter-protests, and the APU student council urged the administration to resolve any protocol violations by student organisers through internal discipline rather than criminal cases.
