Aberdeen vs Celtic Reset for March 4 After Late Pitch Call-Off Spurs SPFL Query

Celtic have asked the league to review whether inspection rules were followed after heavy rain left a dangerous goalmouth at Pittodrie.

Overview

  • The match was postponed following a 4pm inspection less than four hours before kick-off, when the official found extremely soft mud in the Merkland Stand penalty area, poor stud purchase and no ball bounce.
  • Aberdeen said they requested an inspection around 1:30pm but no referee was available, and chief executive Alan Burrows apologised to supporters for the late decision.
  • Celtic have contacted the SPFL to determine whether the pitch-inspection protocol was applied correctly and expressed sympathy for travelling fans.
  • The fixture has been rearranged for March 4 at Pittodrie, with an 8pm start live on Sky Sports.
  • Severe weather also saw Dundee vs Motherwell called off at Dens Park with a new date to be confirmed, and Aberdeen’s Scottish Cup tie with Motherwell moved to February 18 due to the same pitch issue.
