Overview
- Aave founder Stani Kulechov announced Thursday that the protocol has submitted an Aave Request for Comment proposing to deprecate about 50 low‑use reserves, retire 21 matured Pendle tokens, and fully wind down deployments on Sonic, Scroll, zkSync, Metis, Soneium and Aptos.
- The proposal affects roughly $98.1 million in supplied assets and about $15.6 million in outstanding debt, with the six full market closures accounting for about $12.8 million in supply and $4.1 million in debt.
- The plan sets a staged unwind that would freeze affected reserves, cut supply and borrow caps to one unit, raise reserve factors (up to 99% for whole‑market closures), impose high base borrowing rates, and ultimately replace live oracles with fixed prices to allow final retirement.
- A LlamaRisk review cited by Aave found that the targeted deployments generate too little protocol revenue to justify ongoing costs such as price feeds, monitoring and liquidation support, so the measures aim to reduce economic and operational risk.
- The proposal must move through off‑chain Snapshot voting, an Aave Improvement Proposal and a binding on‑chain vote before any changes take effect, and users are not required to close positions immediately while the DAO considers the plan.
