Aaron Tveit to Return to Moulin Rouge! for Limited Run Before Broadway Closing

The Tony-winning original star will reprise Christian for a short farewell engagement that frames the production’s final casting.

Overview

  • The return was reported Thursday and will place Tveit back in the lead role for a short multi-performance engagement immediately before the show’s planned closing.
  • Moulin Rouge! is scheduled to close on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre with Christian Douglas slated to play Christian for that final performance.
  • Sources agree on the Aug. 30 closing but disagree on Tveit’s start date and total shows in the run, with Broadway.com reporting Aug. 15–29 and TheaterMania listing Aug. 18–29 for what it calls 15 performances.
  • The announced closing-run cast includes Kelsie Watts as Satine, Ricky Rojas as Santiago, AK Naderer as Nini, Eric Anderson as Harold Zidler, André Ward as Toulouse-Lautrec, and David Harris as the Duke of Monroth.
  • Tveit originated the role in the 2018 Boston premiere and won a Tony for it, and his return reunites the production with its original lead and core creative team during the show’s farewell engagements.
