Aaron Carter Wrongful-Death Case Reaches Confidential Settlement With Psychiatry Clinic

The confidential deal narrows the case ahead of an October trial for the remaining defendants.

Overview

  • Court papers filed Tuesday, May 12 disclosed that Amen Clinics and psychiatrist Dr. John Faber struck an April settlement for a confidential sum described in the filing as within the damages sought, which were under $325,000.
  • A motion asking the judge to deem the deal in good faith says the agreement followed arm’s-length talks after a failed March mediation and fully resolves claims against the clinic and the doctor.
  • The remaining defendants — dentist Jason Mirabile, Walgreens, and Santa Monica Medical Plaza Pharmacy — have not settled and are set for trial in October 2026.
  • Melanie Martin filed the suit in October 2023 on behalf of her and Carter’s son, alleging unjustified prescriptions for hydrocodone, oxycodone, and alprazolam despite his psychiatric history.
  • The medical examiner ruled Carter’s 2022 death an accidental drowning after alprazolam use and inhaled difluoroethane, and the defendants say their care met standards and point to the inhalant rather than Xanax as the cause.
