A40 Westway to Close for a Month From Friday for Safety-Critical Flyover Repairs

TfL says the month-long shutdown is required to replace two worn joints on Marylebone flyover.

Overview

  • The A40 will shut in both directions between the Westway roundabout and the Marylebone flyover from 22:00 on March 20 until late April.
  • TfL reports parts of the structure have reached the end of their service life, with two expansion joints being renewed to maintain safety.
  • The route carries up to 96,000 vehicles a day, and TfL warns of significant disruption with a traffic signal strategy to manage flows.
  • Drivers are advised to use the M4 and A4 for M25-to-central London journeys or the A312 or A406 for outer-London-to-central trips, and to check affected bus services.
  • Following this phase, westbound traffic at the Westway roundabout faces weekend closures excluding bank holidays until July 6.
