A40 Reopens After Suspected Arson Destroys Oxford 5G Mast

Police have opened an arson inquiry after offenders used a liquid accelerant on a shared mobile mast.

Overview

  • The A40 at Cutteslowe reopened on Saturday morning after more than 24 hours of closure following the mast fire late Thursday.
  • Thames Valley Police say intruders forced entry into a compartment around 8:45pm and used an unidentified liquid to start the blaze, and no injuries were reported.
  • Detectives are appealing for dashcam, CCTV and doorbell footage from the area as enquiries continue, with information accepted via 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers.
  • The damaged site is managed by MBNL for EE and Three, and engineers have secured the equipment while warning of reduced mobile coverage during assessment and repairs.
  • Oxfordshire County Council suspended the Marston Ferry Road congestion charge on Friday to account for diversion traffic caused by the closure.
