8th Pay Commission Opens Consultations, Sets Delhi–Pune Dates and Hires Consultants

The process will set pay and pension changes for about 50 lakh employees and 65 lakh pensioners.

Overview

  • The commission invited applications Friday for up to 20 contractual consultants with full-time pay capped at ₹1.8 lakh a month.
  • Stakeholder meetings are fixed for Dehradun on April 24, New Delhi on April 28–30, and Pune on May 4–5.
  • Groups must first upload a memorandum at 8cpc.gov.in, then seek an appointment by April 20 using the unique memo ID, with final submissions due April 30.
  • The panel is gathering evidence under Terms of Reference that allow 18 months to submit its report, and past commissions took years to roll out after recommendations.
  • Media and unions are debating the fitment factor—a multiplier for basic pay and pensions—with reported scenarios between 2.57 and 3.25 and no official decision yet.
