8th Pay Commission Extends Submission Window To May 31 With Online-Only Rules

Unions have tabled sweeping demands on pay, pensions, allowances.

Overview

  • Following Tuesday's opening consultation in New Delhi, the 8th Central Pay Commission pushed the memorandum deadline to May 31 and limited filings to its online portal.
  • The panel will not accept emails, PDFs or hard copies, so unions and ministries must use a structured web form for their submissions.
  • Staff leaders representing about 36 lakh employees pressed for a 3.83 fitment factor, a ₹69,000 minimum basic pay and a return to the Old Pension Scheme, with higher increments and allowances on the table.
  • The commission made no commitments and continues evidence-gathering under an 18‑month mandate with further hearings planned, including a Pune round.
  • The fitment factor sets the jump in basic pay by multiplying current salaries, compared with a 2.57 factor and a ₹18,000 floor under the 7th Pay Commission.
